As everyone knows, a long weekend usually means yet another excuse to drink in a city like New Orleans, where alcohol and Labor Day weekend fun can go hand in hand. While many locals and tourists in New Orleans like to enjoy a drink or two (or more!) during the Labor Day holiday, it's important to remember to stay safe and never drink and drive. In an effort to help keep the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana safe during the Labor Day weekend holiday, the Louisiana State Police has teamed up with fellow law enforcement agencies as part of an eight-state partnership and crackdown on DWIs, speeding, human and drug trafficking, and fugitives. "Operation Safe Corridor" is a partnership between the Louisiana State Police and trooper units in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. Because the number of traffic fatalities, many related to DWIs, increases by an average of 12.5 percent during the three-day Labor Day holiday, the Louisiana State Police will be out in force, aiming to enforce any and all traffic violations observed. Not only will troopers target drunk drivers and speeders, they will also be on the lookout for human and drug traffickers, along with fugitives.
