Drilling Moratorium Lift to Occur Soon

Posted on Oct 13, 2010 in BP Oil Spill, Local Issues, National Issues

The White House announced that the moratorium prohibiting drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico that has been in place since May will soon be lifted. The drilling companies must follow the new standards and guidelines in place since the explosion of the Deep Water Horizon rig in order to be allowed to drill. The original date of this lift was scheduled for November 30th, but due to an unexpected efficiency with regard to the moratorium, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs believes that the lift could occur within the week. Three rigs that were in use during the time of the explosion have already left the Gulf, and another four are scheduled to depart. This news about the potential early lift of the moratorium could possibly change the plans for many of these operations.
